Optigen/DNA Blood Draw Clinic
Mike Lappin, DVM, Kaye Fuller, DVM and Gerry Clinchy are generously volunteering their time and resources once again to provide this valuable DNA and Optigen Blood Draw Clinic at the National. The Golden Retriever Foundation is once again combining it's ongoing DNA blood collection project with the additional service of collecting blood samples for PRA and ICT testing by Optigen LLC.
There is no charge for the blood draws or shipping. GRF also absorbs the OFA CHIC fee for Goldens.
For Optigen testing, all breeds can participate at our blood draw sites however ONLY GOLDENS are allowed to send individual samples directly to Optigen. Time frame for off-site submissions will be announced on FB social media sites and National and GRCA website at a later date.
When ordering on line, print your order form and bring it with you to the clinic This form must go in the shipment with the blood sample. Wireless internet may be available for placing your order online while at the National.
We are awaiting NEW PRICES from Optigen this year.
Please check the National website or Facebook page for all updates or contact Gerry Clinchy directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
For donating blood to the GRF projects with OFA and Broad Institute, please go to the GRF website, and print out the forms. Since those forms require extensive information, it would be best to do that now. This will save you time on clinic day. Forms also available from email@example.com.
An Opportunity to Help Our Beloved Breed
This year the National Health clinic will be collecting blood at the DNA Clinic for a new research study. This clinic will follow the same times as the DNA/Optigen clinic.
This study is looking at whether Senior Golden Retriever have ‘protective genes’ that perhaps help to protect them against the life-limiting diseases that are seen in dogs much younger than 12 years of age. This study is out of the Bannasch Laboratory at University of California, Davis.
Downloadable forms with more information on the study and on how to participate are available on the 2017 National website here.

PIGMENTARY UVEITIS RESEARCH CLINIC
Tuesday September 26 thru Thursday September 28
DaNang Room / Wicomico Center
Starting at 9 am daily
Dr. Wendy Townsend, MS, DVM, DAVOM of Purdue University and a primary researcher into PU will be performing ultrasounds of Golden Retriever eye. This noninvasive procedure is free of charge, is not painful or uncomfortable and has the potential to provide critical information for continuing research into this disease. Dr Townsend will examine any Golden Retrievers, healthy eyes or otherwise, 6 years and older. Goldens without pedigrees or those from rescue situations are more than welcome to become a part of this research project. Those Goldens 4 and older, who are part of the MAF Lifetime Study, are eligible to participate in this study. Dependent on the interest in this year’s clinic, the age requirement is subject to change. Dr Townsend is strongly encouraging Golden Retrievers 12 years and older and those previously seen at PU clinics to participate in this year’s clinic.
A gift of appreciation will be given to Goldens 12 years and older who have preregistered for the clinic. The clinic is limited to 125 dogs.
Appointments will be arranged once judging schedules are announced. Preregistration is strongly encouraged. Please download the PU consent form to register your dog and return the form to the email address listed below. Please include k9data or AKC pedigree, when possible if this is your dog's first time at PU Research clinic. A confirmation email will be sent acknowledging registration.
